Is sleeplessness in Seattle really thing? Maybe, due to jetlag. After three wildly successful and rewarding concerts with the Tennessee Chamber Chorus last June, I'm off to Seattle to debut with The Choral Pickup, a benefit concert series. What a fantastic idea conceived by conductor, Nathan Frank! Read his article to find out a little bit more about this new innovative group and its humanitarian efforts. Can't wait to be a part of this!
What is the Choral Pickup?
Our story began about three years ago on a rooftop in Dallas. After singing a series of concerts, some colleagues and I came up with an idea for a new multifaceted choral concept.
1. We wanted to develop a professional choir that also functioned as an outreach for young singers.
2. We wanted to develop a series of concerts that would benefit a secondary philanthropic cause.
3. Our desire was for the series of concerts to be free and open to all.
We are two weeks away from achieving these goals and launching our first series of concerts in the Pacific Northwest. This twenty-two voice ensemble, lead by Dr. Nathan Frank, includes eight talented young singers from the Puget Sound area and fourteen professional singers from around the United States and Canada. Through our fund raising efforts, our goal to offer these concerts free of admission has been reached. Those who wish to make an offering to aid the 93 percent of the Burkina Faso's population who lack access to clean water and sanitation, will be given that opportunity during the concert.
