Late last night, I made the snowy trek to Redpath Hall to rehearse a little Bach for our upcoming Sacred Music Recital. Anticipating the warmth, I pried open the heavy wooden doors unexpectedly entering a world of resounding beauty. As my limbs and digits thawed, the majestic vibrations of the French organ and the lovely harmony of voices hovered from the balcony, kindled by the vaulted ceilings. It was Mendelssohn's "Oh come everyone that thirsteth" from Elijah. You can imagine what followed. It was one of those striking moments of awe and thankfulness that we let ourselves experience all too seldom in our bustling, counting, always-memorizing, never-quite-rested musician minds. I left that evening warmed and with a fresh sense of peace. Take time to pause this Sunday afternoon and experience this timeless music in an absolutely lovely venue.
